What Are The Wishes Of The Nigerian Youth For The Future Of Clean Energy?
For many Nigerians, clean energy is not an abstract policy conversation. It is a matter that shapes daily life. The lack of reliable power affects everything: from the hospital ward plunged into darkness mid-procedure to the student studying by candlelight and the small business owner watching their stock go bad because the grid went out again.
Against this backdrop, Consumer Advocacy and Empowerment Foundation (CADEF) marked the International Day of Clean Energy on the 26th of January, 2026, with a social media campaign themed “My Clean Energy Wish.”
The campaign created a space for Nigerians to voice what clean, reliable energy would mean for them and their communities. What emerged was not just a collection of wishes but a portrait of what is at stake. Participants called for solar-powered healthcare facilities, community-wide renewable energy systems, and a national grid that actually works for the people who depend on it. Every wish echoed that the transition to clean energy is not a luxury but a necessity.
At CADEF, we believe that effective advocacy begins with listening. The voices of everyday Nigerians must shape the energy policies and systems being built in their name. This campaign was one step in that direction – advancing inclusion, and contributing to a future where every Nigerian can access clean, affordable, and reliable energy.
This is why we run a practical distributed energy resources platform known as “Renew Energy Naija” designed to demystify energy choices for consumers, because when consumers understand their options, they can make informed decisions.
The platform features:
A solar calculator that helps households and small businesses estimate their energy needs.
Step-by-step consumer guidance on renewable energy options.
Connections to verified installers, ensuring safe and trusted solutions.
