What role can consumer advocacy play in advancing a fair and impactful clean energy transition?
This question was at the heart of the latest Energy Systems Expert Group session—part of the Member Connects June series hosted by Consumers International. In this insightful gathering, global member organizations, including CADEF, came together to reflect on the real power of consumer voice in shaping energy systems that are not only sustainable but also just.
The session featured the unveiling of “The Impact Initiative: Amplifying Consumers’ Voices in Clean Energy,” a new study that delves into what makes consumer mobilization successful. From strategic engagement to persistent policy pressure, the findings underscored that impactful advocacy doesn’t happen by accident—it happens by design.
Global Voices, Local Actions
Initiatives from across the globe were spotlighted, showcasing how consumer organizations are tackling energy justice from different angles:
Nigeria (CADEF): Leveraging digital platforms like the Renew Energy Naija one-stop shop to empower households with clean energy choices and tools.
India & Brazil: Advocating against exploitative energy tariffs and influencing regulatory reforms.
Pakistan: Supporting off-grid communities through targeted energy access programs.
Other highlights included one-stop-shop demos from Chile and Columbia, which borrowed a leaf from CADEF’s Renew Energy Naija journey.
The presentations emphasized the importance of community-driven digital advocacy, highlighting how informed consumers can reshape demand, influence policy, and accelerate the uptake of distributed energy solutions.
The session also explored best practices for designing and funding collaborative energy justice projects, reminding us that real transformation happens when knowledge, resources, and determination come together.
As the clean energy transition accelerates, CADEF is proud to be part of a global network ensuring that no consumer is left behind.
